This song uses the end of summer and the coming of winter as a metaphor for a relationship.

I wrote it from the vocal melody downwards, whereas I usually have at least a partial chord sequence in place before I start thinking of a melody. After Melanie and I began playing this live as a duo, we went back to the recording and added her harmony in the B section and coda, which really made those come alive for me.
